Parliament Hill
Join the tens of thousands of visitors to Parliament hill which has the main stage for canada day's big entertainers. Make sure you are at parliament hill for noon 12:00pm for the official kickoff with the prime minister, the Governer General and the Heritage Minister and the official flypast from the canadian armed forces.

This years canadian artists that will be performing includes rock babd Blue Rodeo, singer Diane Dufresne, the electrifyinig percussionists Drum, the most rewarded canadian country musician Paul Brandt, contemporary aboriginal performers Gilles C. Sioui, Florant Vollant, and Nathalie Picard..
Also performing live on the main stage on parliament hill is rock musician Joel Plaskett, folk rock singer and writer Kevin Parent, rock star runner up on TV Rock Star INXS Suzie McNeil, the rock pop group Pascale Picard Band and les deux rives choir.
The Canada Day noon show features the Snowbirds and the armed forces CF-18s Flypast will be broadcast live across the country on CBC/Radio-Canada, CBC Newsworld and le Réseau de l’information (RDI). You can access the Webcast between 12:00 and 1:30 (EST) on July 1st, 2008 on the Canadian Heritage site as well as the National Capital Commission site.

Entertainment on the main stage is throughout the day and the most popular place to be for the grand finale, the amazing spectacular display of fireworks. This year there are pyrotechnics in Major's Hill Park and in Gatineau at Jacques Cartier Park.
Sparks Street Mall
The sparks street mall is another great place to visit on canada day. The mall features entertainment all day along with sidewalk cafes offering food, beer, wine and snacks. Find stores offering ice cream, candy and a Tim Hortons for coffee and donuts or hot food items.
Majors Hill Park
Majors hill park located just behind the Chateau Laurier Hotel on Rideau Street offers entertainment, a bbq cookoff with chicken sandwiches, and lots for kids to do including Face Painting, Temporary Tatoos, Balloons for the kids and more.
Byward Market
The byward market has cafes, restaurants, night clubs, and outdoor entertainment in downtown parking lots for canada day partiers.
Jacques Cartier Park in Hull-Gatineau
Jacques cartier park in hull-gatineau just across the river from ottawa has lots to do for the whole family including amusements and giant inflatable play structures and slides. Come early to avoid lineups as kids start lining up for attractions by 11:00am. There are food concessions offering lemonade, french fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, beaver tails, cotton candy, ice cream and free entertainment. NOTE: There are free busses from downtown ottawa at the National Gallery and Majors Hill Park that can take you from one venue in ottawa to the gatineau jacques park across the river and back and forth all day at no charge.
Canada Day in Kanata
Canada day in Kanata has one of the largest community events in Ottawa with crowds of over 30,000 people converging on Walter Baker park off Terry Fox drive in Kanata. Take the queensway west from downtown ottawa and exit at the terry fox drive exit. Entertainment includes a Midway amusement park, a free family fun zone, Dog Shows, Dance Shows, Dave Hallet, Canada's Premier Comedy Hypnotist, Local musical talent, and a spectacular fireworks show in the evening.
Canada Day at Petrie Island at Greater Orleans Ontario
If you are living in the East end of Ottawa you may want to check out the greater orleans canada day events. The event has activities all day starting at 11:00am with sand sculptures, volunteer fire demonstrations, Beach volleyball, food concessions, clowns, inflatable slides with large castles, a beer garden, ongoing entertainment on the main stage and fireworks to end the evening.
How to get to Petrie Island in greater Orleans: From downtown ottawa take the queensway east to Orleans and look for St. Joseph Blvd. and Tenth Line Road. At the end of Tenth Line Rd. turn right on to North Service Road and look for the parking signs for the event.Two large parking areas are available for car parking.
Canada Day Festival in Andrew Haydon Park Ottawa West
Festival attractions for canada day at the park include a Petting Zoo for kids, Pony rides, a Car show, fire show, face painting for kids, balloons, waterpark, live DJ, Bandshell entertainment all day and much more for the whole family.
How to get to Andrew Haydon Park: From downtown take the queensway west towards Bayshore shopping center and take the Carling avenue exit. The location is 3169 Carling avenue near the Bayshore shopping center.
NOTE: Museums such as The Museum of Civilization across the river from downtown ottawa are free on canada day, so you may want to consider visiting them as well...

Car Parking on Canada Day: You can park your car downtown for free on city streets but be aware there are street closures and you may have to walk a bit to get to all the atttractions.
